Preparing to Update
Before updating, make a copy of the QuarkXPress or QuarkXPress Passport folder currently on your hard drive. This ensures that you will have a working copy if the update is unsuccessful.
Disable any virus protection software before updating. If you are concerned about a virus infecting your computer, we recommend that you first run a virus check on the CD-ROM or the downloaded file. Then disable your virus detection before updating.

This Updater will update copies of QuarkXPress and QuarkXPress Passport versions 4.0, 4.01, and 4.01r1 to version 4.02. To update QuarkXPress and QuarkXPress Passport, follow these steps:
1. If you are updating from a CD-ROM, insert the CD-ROM. (If your computer does not have a CD-ROM drive, you may use a networked CD-ROM drive and mount that drive over the network.) Locate and open the folder containing the Updater for the application you want to update: U.S. English QuarkXPress (“English.US”), International English QuarkXPress (“English.UK”), or QuarkXPress Passport (“Passport”).
2. Double-click the Update.exe file.
3. Locate the copy of the application you wish to update.
4. Click Update to update the application.
Updater notes
• Some XTensions have been updated. If you have any of these XTensions installed, the Updaters replace them with the updated version.
• The Updater for QuarkXPress Passport installs all the QuarkXPress Passport language files. If you do not want to use some of these language files, you can remove them from your QuarkXPress Passport folder before you launch QuarkXPress Passport.
Updating QuarkXPress and QuarkXPress Passport for Mac OS

1. Disable any nonessential system extensions and control panels.
2. If you are updating from a CD-ROM, insert the CD-ROM. (If your computer does not have a CD-ROM drive, you may use a networked CD-ROM drive and mount that drive over the network.) Updating POCE™ components
If you installed POCE (PANTONE® Open Color Environment™) components when you installed the application, you should update them with the files on this CD-ROM. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Open the Extensions folder in you System Folder.
2. Locate the files named “PANTONE® Color Picker” and “Pantone Responder” and drag them to the Trash.
3. Open the Updated System Files folder on the CD-ROM, then open the POCE folder inside.
4. Drag-copy the files named “PANTONE® Color Picker” and “Pantone® Responder” from the CD-ROM into the Extensions folder in your System Folder.
Completing the update process
When the update process is complete, you should return your system to its normal configuration and restart your computer.
Updater notes
• The Updater installs all of the XTensions in its folder. If, after updating, you decide you do not want to use some of these updated XTensions, you can disable them with the XTensions Manager (Utilities -> XTensions Manager).
• If the Updater replaces a piece of XTensions software, it places the old version of the file in a folder named “Old Items Folder” (in the application folder).
• If you have Quark™ CMS XTensions software and/or Index XTensions software in the XTension folder when you run the Updater, the Updater moves the old version(s) to the Old Items Folder and places the new version(s) in the XTension Disabled folder. To use the new versions, launch QuarkXPress and enable them with the XTensions Manager (Utilities -> XTensions Manager).
• The Updater for QuarkXPress Passport installs all the language files. If you do not want to use some of these language files, you can remove them from your QuarkXPress Passport folder before you launch QuarkXPress Passport.

Problems Fixed with XTensions Software
Quark CMS XTensions software
This updated version recognizes ICC profiles embedded in TIFF pictures. It also fixes a problem with the Composite Simulates Separation check box (Print dialog box -> Profiles tab).
Index XTensions software
With earlier versions of Index, problems could occur if you opened and resaved a Mac OS document containing index entries using a copy of QuarkXPress for Windows for which the Index XTensions software was not installed. If you subsequently opened such a document on a Mac OS computer, the index could be lost and a crash could occur. (The same was true if the document was created with QuarkXPress for Windows and resaved on a Mac OS computer without Index XTensions software installed.) This problem has been fixed.
XPress Tags XTensions software
This updated version addresses compatibility issues with third-party XTensions software.
Feature Information
Bleed and Offset
In versions 4.0, 4.01, and 4.01r1, the only way to get a bleed was to enter a value in the Bleed field (File -> Print -> Document tab). Some users found this problematic because entering a value in the Bleed field would also outset the crop marks by that value (plus the default crop mark outset of 6 points). For this reason, the application has been updated as follows:
• A new feature, Offset, has been added to the Document tab of the Print dialog box (File -> Print). To specify the distance between the edge of the page and the beginning of the crop marks, enter a value in the Offset field. The value in the Offset field is honored exactly, regardless of the value in the Bleed field.
• If a value is entered in the Bleed field (File -> Print -> Document tab), any element that is within the bleed area will print, even if does not touch the page.
Note that because of these changes, Bleed Redefine XTensions software is unnecessary with version 4.02. Note also, however, that you must enter a value in the Bleed field to get a bleed; with Bleed Redefine XTensions software loaded, a bleed could occur even when the Bleed value was set to zero.
Replace Font
Plain, bold, and italic buttons have been added to the Replace Font dialog box (Utilities -> Usage -> Fonts tab -> Replace button). To replace the font or fonts selected in the fonts scroll list with a plain, bold, or italic version of the font selected in the Replacement Font field, click the appropriate button before clicking OK. You may simultaneously select the bold and italic buttons.
XTensions Information
Type Tricks XTensions software

To use the decompressed XTensions software, drag it to your XTension folder and relaunch the application. Please see the Type Tricks ReadMe file for more information.
